Every year, the end of winter brings the end of the commercial fishing season, one of the defining elements of the local Métis culture in St. Laurent. In honor of these ends, the residents celebrate the annual Manipogo Festival, aptly named after the "Manipogo," which is St. Laurent's answer to the Loch Ness sea monster. These festivities include a Bombardier parade, rides, and an ice fishing competition. To top things off, there is a million-dollar prize offered to anybody who can capture the Manipogo lake monster - an honour that remains unclaimed.

Many Manitobans were made proud when this went to Smithonian but of course few of us will ever get there, so thanks for taking the time to provide the link. It seemed to take forever to download on our old dial up but was worth every second. The display looks so authentic to me (Right down to the 4 inch nail through the rubrail to keep the engine door closed.) I'd have prefered the old cotton sideline to the new nylon but thats from days of the past. The Sigurdson ice auger is also a nice touch on the yellow machine. Thanks again.

Every one of the units up there seem to have the exhaust straight up through the top instead of coming out by the tracks. The augers seem to be the big belt driven ones mounted off the back side PTO. I never noticed the engine door, I guess you do what you need to get the fish out of the lake.
