Windows sliding

Can U buy pre-made sliding door windows. My machine is
a 62 wide gauge and cannot open windows. Also interior material
that goes around the 4 round windows ?

Apparently Shaver Industries in Stonewall did supply some of these and I have seen some on former power company machines from Sask and Manitoba. I had a set but decided not to use them when redoing my doors but cannot locate them now. I went with the solid glass as it is less subject to breakage and most important...they don't rattle. The originals that tilted inwards were a disaster and most had a stovebolt and 2 big washers to keep them in.The sliders I had were manufactured by a Winnipeg company but I don't recall the name. It was stamped in the aluminum. They were somewhat similar to the stock 1967 and later factory windows but the corners were more sharp than the originals and I wasn't satisfied with the workmanship. As for the interior around the rear windows, there is a fireglass material in sheets about 1/8th that may still be available at lumber stores. It comes in 4 x 8 sheets and has a textured surface that looks good in a light colour. One sheet does both sides. Or if you want to go with a fabric to set off your headliner you can use the corplast ? I believe it's called, a sort of plasticized cardboard used frequently for signs and in some cases for greenhouses. It can be cut to fit and then the fabric installed over it using a glue gun to hold it nicely in place untill you get the windows back in to hold everything. Haven't done my machine yet but I'm leaning toward the latter. Hope this helps.

1) I think I will take out the original glass and get a window
guy to make slider frames, I like the ventilation aspect of a slider.
and maybe go with a tinted lexan window.

2) Does yours have the round windows on the sides., if so, where do you buy the rubber glass mounts ?

Yes mine has the round windows and the original rubber isn't good. A local fellow Mr Mclean has done a zillion windows so I went over and got this info:
 The rubber comes in 50ft lengths per case and is made by Cooper Standard ,Specialty Products Group. Catalog No. 75000600 and the Description # is SSWS AS-1536. He gets it from Speedy Auto Glass in Winnipeg. They also sold him a tool. No part # visible. It has a screwdriver like handle 3 1/4 inches long with a pin of about 3/16ths x 3/4 inch on the end.. Just below the pin is a 1/2 inch roller on the shaft. This allows you to go along the glass and install it in the rubber. The rubber goes in the hole first, cut to fit snugly. You use lots of silicone spray to lube the rubber. It is best to have someone on the other side to assist and to prevent the window from popping out while you are working. Hope this all helps...

   I have noticed on some bombers that the glass in the doors open inward to allow for ventilation. A fellow member "57 narrownewf" is rebuilding his c18 this winter. Someone has siliconed the glass in place. He would like to change it back. Anyone have any input ? Thanks

 The original type door wondows that opened to the inside that you are describing were famous for rattling. I would hazard a guess that 99% of those type windows have either been siliconed or bolted shut (or both)to avoid this. They are quiet when they are open. I usually pinch a glove or something in the window to quiet it down while travelling.

  I know this topic was ongoing in ( "Jeff's 69 Rebuild ) but it should have been here. I can see how easy it is to get things mixed up.

   Anyway here are a few pics of Mike's new slider windows he had done. The original window is from an INTERNATIONAL PRO SLEEPER like this one.

  Here are a couple of pics of Mike's window. The original outside size was 25" wide by 11 3/4" high. After cutting the size is 23" wide by 11 3/4" high.
  I think the window could easily fit without cutting it, especially if you were putting on new skins. There is a trim ring that attaches inside & holds the window in place.

   I have been talking to the company that manufactures the hardware for these sliders. They told me to go through a local glass shop that deals with them. It will cost approximately $450.00 for enough material, plus the cost of glass to make the 2 front windows. I think I will wait to see how Mike's turn out before I do anything.
