So my project has been on hold as my 251 blew up, actually I think it spun a bearing and is stuck but blew up sounds more interesting :)

I actually found another 251 ind local to me but its in a jitterbug, for those not knowing a jitterbug is a vehicle built to go into woods and drag out tress, wood etc. Its an old military vehicle. I have a friend who knows who built it and said it ran great but its been sitting for awhile. It was sold to someone who wants to put a different drivetrain in it. I've seen it, turned the engine over by hand so it isn't stuck. Trouble is the guy says he will get engine out but hasn't done it. Been a few months. So Not sure if I'll ever get it???

Yes it is !!! We had a couple of wet flakes this morning for a few minutes. Take that old mustang & park it out back. It's only a Ford... haha.

I see some posts :D. Wish I had one more bay on my shop so I could set the R12 in there, love to play in the snow some this season. I need to take tracks off to grease all the bearings, replace tires and rebelt drive cogs. one bay has my mustang in it, the other I need for daily driver repair and such. Still might take the time to get it in the snow?

Wanted / Re: Wheels,looking for

Can't help with any used wheels, but we sell new aluminum wheels built to the same specs as the original.  If interested call us at (800) 473-3360.  The wheels stronger better looking and "wont rust".  We also sell tires for this application.

Thanks Clyde, might have to go that route although from your website they are mighty expensive.

Btw Won best snowmobile and most unusual at the show :D, no one there had ever seen one before. It was fun talking to folks about my R12

V6 or Straight 6 Engines / Re: 251 Carburetor

Hello. I'm working on a 251 that has had the throttle linkage modified with homemade parts.  Also; did this carb have an automatic choke?  If so, the linkages are all missing.  I've tried everything I know of to upload pictures of it on here without success.  Has someone got this Carter carb setup and could you please either upload some pictures of it here or send them to my private email?
Thanks
Rod.
Mine has a mechanical choke but its been replaced. I think originally the choke was on the dash, you pulled it out to choke it. Choke certainly makes a big difference once I got mine working, it starts right up now

I'm taking my completely unrestored R12 to an antique show this weekend, was putting air in tires when I notice one wheel is rusted thru around rim. Looking for 1 or 2 used wheels.
BTW, looking to win most unusual in show this weekend ;D
Thanks
Jon

General Discussion / Re: Powder Coating
« on: May 29, 2013, 05:10:15 pm »

Anyone have something media blasted ( red oxide, I think) & then powder coated ? Will it take everything off & how long will the powder coat last ??? Some parts may be exposed to the weather a fair bit...

                                                                            OT.
Most anything bought now that is painted is powder coated. Powder coat is tougher than regular paint. I have a new reading tool body on my work truck and its powder coated

Walrus you can email the info on your ID tag to the crowd in Valcourt, Que. They can give you all kinds of info about your bomber. I have a funny feeling that that bomber belongs in Cranberry Portage, MB. I've seen a couple videos of that machine.

                                                                                OT.
I did that and the curator of the museum got back to me with some info on who owned it originally and who sold it and where. I guess I should email them again and ask how many were sold in 1952.

I didn't realize there were only 2600 of the B12s built from 45 to 51. That makes those machines quite rare and therefore very valuable. Does anyone know how many built in 52?

Orin, Walrus & the rest of the members, thanks for asking about me. I haven't done very much at all with my bomber for a long time now. I think I have fallen ill to the couch potato syndrome. I had a fellow geared up to do my diff for me but after months of waiting I gave up on him. I now have it at another fellow's place. I called him last night & he has it pretty well done as he had other jobs that have priority over mine.
I don't be out in the shed in the cold months cause the "BOSS" complains about the extra costs ($200.) on the light bill every month. I'm hoping to be back at it this summer. I was out of town for the last few days getting another check up. While there I bought a set of gauges & ignition & ignition switch so I can wire the engine with the help from Remtech. I am thinking about useing a Dodge power wagon rad as it is a bit shorter & the rad man says I can make it more efficent by adding an extra core to it, 4 versus 3...
Walrus, as for pics, what I have are posted in my rebuild. I am still kicking. Doc says I'm too contrary to die yet.  Ha Ha !!!

This ol' fart's here for awhile yet !!!!
No big deal, sometimes its hard to motivate especially in the winter. I work outside alot so I won't freeze my butt off to work on a toy. I have many toys that never seem to get finished. I gear up and go wild and then something else takes my time and off to the back burner she goes. I have a 67 Mustang thats been worked on and then stored, worked on and then stored, etc etc. I've had it nearly 20 years and it still isn't done :D. Got it running the other day though, going to fix the brakes, register it, inspect it and smoke the tires this summer ;D. Its pretty ratty but mechanically its pretty decent(other than the brakes, sitting for years did that)

How are you doing with your bomber OT?
Pics would be nice :)

Got my new windshield installed today, cut and installed for 90 bucks, very nice. Welded a few holes shut and painted with POR15 before the new glass went in. Should hold it until I decide how far I go on this thing.  Wish it would have been installed years ago as I figure the floor would be in much better shape if water hadn't been pouring in all these years.

Next is recovering the sprockets, checking wheel bearings, replace as needed, grease. Not sure when I'll have time to do that though?
